M.I.A – A Year Away

HELLLOOO? IS THERE ANYONE ALIVE OUT THERE?

No. I am not quoting the classic film that is responsible for the tugging of a nation’s heart strings and is also the centre of wide controversy (THERE WAS ENOUGH ROOM ON THE DOOR, JACK DIDN’T NEED TO DIE!!). Instead I am checking if there is in fact anyone still out there, reading this.

I have evidently been away for a while. To be exact, my last post was in July last year. I have never been one to post periodically and admire those who manage to knock out a post every week or two but a whole year (and two months) is simply shameful.

In my defence, however, it has not been a year quietly spent. “What have you been up to since you went M.I.A last year?”, I hear you ask. Well, last time I checked in, I had just taken part in the British Transplant Games and at over 400 days ago, a lot has happened since then. Most notable being that I am now a fully fledged, money-lacking, sleep deprived, squalor-living student! A few weeks after the games I received the news that I had been accepted into my dream university and a month later, set off up North to Newcastle University to study Journalism.

So, now you know that I haven’t been sitting idly, twiddling my thumbs for the year – at least not for the most of the year. I have in fact been studying hard (90% of the time) and completing my first year of university, which I am so thankful that I have been able to do. Of course, as you will know if you are familiar with my story, at points in my life, I wasn’t sure whether I would be able to survive until the end of the month, let alone live completely independently, away from home and be able to study for a degree at the same time as my peers. I’m living a life that at times, I never could have dreamed of living. Life, all in all, has been good to me over the past year.

On a final note, I’m making no promises, but I will say that I’m going to make a concerted effort to post on a more regular basis. I won’t be away for another year – that’s for sure. I’m a journalist in training now so I need all the writing experience I can get.

Until then,

Cecilia-Joy xxxx
